Custodial History:
This fonds was donated in two increments by I.J. Zimmering, son of Morris.
The items pertaining to Morris were donated in 1989 while the items pertaining
to Morris brother Mark Aaron were donated in 1990.
Scope and Content:
Of the 21 photographs in total, there are 8 photographs of Morris Zimmering and 4 of his wife Gertrude.
These include images of Morris Zimmering in uniform during World War I; one of these is a photograph which has been hand coloured.
Those taken in World War II are from a photo booth.
Two photographs depict Morris Zimmering with his wife, Gertrude. The collection also includes an image of Gertrude Gutman before her marriage. There are 11 photographs of Mark Aaron Zimmering. Mark Aaron Zimmering is photographed in his Royal Fusiliers uniform and in front of his tent in Palestine. The collection also includes 6 of Morris medals and 4 pins.
Two of the pins were issued during World War I including one received for service at the front. 4 medals were received during World War II. Other artefacts include cutlery used while in the field and two armbands from the Brigadier Frederick Kisch branch of the Canadian Jewish Legion. Documents include Gertrude Gutmans Polish passport, an original quarantine certificate, Hebrew Protective Association of Montreal booklet, photocopies of Morris Zimmering's naturalisation certificate and photocopies of Morris Zimmering and Gertrude Gutman's marriage certificate.

ZIMMERMAN, Reuven and Harry = Life and Work Documents. - 1925-1990c. - 6 photographs. - 0.02 metres of textual records.
Biographical Sketch:
Harry Zimmerman is the father of the donor. Reuven, who died in 2005, was his
brother. Reuven was born in 1925. He worked as a Via Rail conductor and as a
taxi driver. Never married, he was companion to Marie-Flore Lortie for 30 years,
until her death from cancer.
Custodial History:
The collection was donated by Arlene Zimmerman on Aug. 3, 2007.
Scope and Content:
Circumcision certificate from Rabbi J.L. Colton for Harry Zimmerman (the donors
father) in 1925. New Years cards printed for his family. From Reuven Zimmerman:
documents relating to his work at Via Rail and small slide-photo of him in his
railway car, photos with his taxi, work identification cards, birth certificate
information and death notice, portrait photos.

in Montreal in a milieu not often documented in our collection.
ZIONIST ORGANIZATION OF CANADA/CANADIAN ZIONIST FEDERATION. - 1913-1978. - 0.31 metres of textual records.
Administrative History:
The first Canadian Zionist society was founded in Montreal in
1898. The Federation of Zionist Societies of Canada, an umbrella
organization for it and other Canadian groups, was created in
1899, later to become the Zionist Organization of Canada (1925)
and then the Canadian Zionist Federation (1967). The Zionist
Organization of Canada/CZF coordinates the Zionist societies
across Canada, and sponsors the Jewish National Fund and Keren
Hayesod. Their affiliate groups have included Habonim, Young
Judea and Hadassah. The Zionist Organization of Canada/CZF runs
conventions, sends delegates to the World Zionist Convention,
promotes aliyah, trips to Israel, lectures, pro-Israel rallies
and other such events, releases informational publications, and
has many educational programs and materials.
