Choose Your
Voice: Antisemitism in Canada is an exciting educational program for Canadian students in grades 6, 7 and
8. Developed by a Canadian Jewish Congress Charities Committee for FAST
- Fighting Antisemitism Together, this resource is being made available
to educators across the country in order to empower students to stand up against
hatred and intolerance in all its forms.
Supported by an award-winning
DVD, this four-lesson program is a very powerful tool to help young people find
their own voices in the face of bigotry. It has been designed for use by educators
and meets the needs of the provincial curriculum in the areas of Language and
the Arts. The program is designed with flexibility, so the lessons can be taught
together as a unit or can stand on their own as individual learning opportunities.
Each lesson is accompanied by a detailed lesson plan and sample rubric, a short
video segment on DVD, and suggestions for exercises and resource materials for
use by students.
Choose Your
Voice is an excellent tool that meets curriculum standards while
teaching important lessons. The resource was developed to ensure that any student,
no matter his or her background, can connect with the key messages. Students
will learn about historic and current experiences from people of a variety of
backgrounds, including African-Canadians, First Nations Peoples, Chinese and
Asian communities, Holocaust and Rwandan genocide survivors, a former racist
turned anti-racism advocate, and several students in the targeted age cohort
who share their views on what stereotyping means and how it makes them feel.
Since its launch in September
2005, Choose Your Voice has received wide acclaim
among educators from across the country.
