Bockner of Toronto, Ontario, was reported killed in action near Zutphen, Holland, on April 11, 1945, according to an official dispatch. A member of the Irish Regiment of Canada, he was transferred to the 30th Anti-Aircraft Battery when it was organized. After training on the west coast of Canada, he went overseas and was attached to an anti-aircraft unit. In the fall of 1943, he volunteered as an observer with the 1st Canadian Division in Italy. There he was attached to the 54th Light Anti-Aircraft battery and fought the entire Italian campaign until the 1st Division was transferred to the western front.
